The Professionals Miracles Foundation mission, very simply, is to provide financial assistance to sick children and their families in the Denver Metro area. Our grants are intended to help improve the lives of children diagnosed with a life-threatening illness (e.g. cancer), who are faced with a lifetime medical condition (e.g. asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis), or who are injured in tragic accidents.
Professionals Miracles Foundation provides modest financial grants to sick children and their families in the Denver Metro area to help ease their burdens. Because we want to help as many children as we can, we generally limit our support to $2,000 for each child.
What’s considered in making our grants?
A sick child’s home should be a refuge.
Because we know the importance of a stable, functional home, especially for children with illnesses, we consider financial assistance to families so they can provide comfort to their sick or injured child. So, we give special consideration to requests including:
- Short-term grants to families to allow them to stay in their homes.
- Financial grants to make the home more livable by providing special furnishings, technologies or adaptations to make it easier to care for sick children.
Sick or injured children have special needs.
Children’s medical conditions often can be improved by special activities or equipment that make life more bearable. Often these amenities are beyond the budgets of families faced with childrens’ illnesses. Professionals Miracles Foundation gives special consideration to requests that:
- Enable sick or injured children to participate in specialized activities or therapies that will improve their ability to cope with their condition.
- Provide special adaptive equipment to improve the sick or injured child’s quality of life.
We consider some other factors, as well.
- How will a charitable grant for a sick child make a difference in the life of the recipients?
- Will a Professionals Miracles Foundation grant fill a gap for the recipients?
- Are there other avenues for financial assistance to the sick child that would be more effective?
Regarding assistive devices, equipment and specialized therapy.
The Board of the Professionals Miracles Foundation recognizes that many children targeted by the Foundation have needs for assistive devices and/or home modifications that will allow children to be safe and comfortable and provide opportunities to be more self-sufficient. Examples are assistive wheelchairs, chairs, playground equipment, bicycles, etc or home modifications like ramps. The maximum allowable for grants is $2,000.
If requesting funding for such items, please provide manufacturers estimates of costs, e.g.manufacturers equipment costs, contractors’ bids. This information must be provided in order for the application to be considered.
Things we generally don’t consider.
Because Professionals Miracles Foundation wants to provide immediate, tangible and special assistance for children with medical conditions and their families, we generally don’t consider requests for medical research, direct medical expenses, capital projects, or paying off debts. Additionally, though we are often presented with grant requests for children with Downs Syndrome, we have elected to give grant monies to children with challenges other than Downs Syndrome.
How often do we review families’ requests for grants?
We look at requests every other month. Our review process generally takes 30 days, so we ask that you submit your grant requests at least a month before our scheduled meetings. Our meetings will be held in:
How to apply for a grant.
We will take requests from doctors, social workers and other medical personnel familiar with the circumstances of the family. We also take referrals from the families of sick and injured children themselves, or from friends and families associated with the family in need.
We have developed a simple, online grant application form that should be completed by the referring party. It does require confirmation of the child’s illness or medical condition by a doctor or hospital personnel.
